Santa Cruz Mentor Training - Year Two
Training for Those Who Work With Beginning Teachers
Background
Conducted by trainers from the nationally renowned New Teacher Center at The University of
California-Santa Cruz, this series of 4 days of training builds on 20 years of experience by the New Teacher Center in supporting beginning teachers. The New Teacher Center serves as a national center for dissemination of information on new teacher support and provides consulting services for educational entities interested in developing or refining programs of support for beginning teachers.
Content
Santa Cruz Mentor Training –Year Two takes place during the 2008- 2009 school year. The curriculum focuses on enhancing knowledge acquired during the Year One Santa Cruz Mentor Teacher trainings. Participation is limited to those individuals who have completed the Santa Cruz Mentor Training Year One Curriculum, and who are currently working with beginning teachers using the Santa Cruz formative assessment tools.
- Coaching in Complex Situations (three days) an advanced coaching training to support the mentors’ professional development to coach strategically and to find solutions to challenging situations. (Download flyer)
- Mentoring for Equity (three days) to present mentors with a framework for coaching new teachers regarding inequities in issues of race, language, and culture. (Download flyer)
- Artifacts of Practice (three days) to assist mentors in analyzing data related to mentor formative assessment tools and programmatic improvement
- Teachers of Teachers (three days) to build mentors’ leadership skills to influence, impact, and advocate for induction

Registration fee includes all materials, continental breakfast and lunch for each day of training. |

Payment for the training sessions must be received in the form of a check. If your school division is paying with a purchase order, please include the names of all registrants and the selected training(s) with your check to ensure prompt handling. All checks must be made payable to Virginia Commonwealth University and should be received two weeks prior to the training session to hold your confirmation. |

Registration will be confirmed upon receipt. An event reminder and directions will be sent via email one week prior to the event. |
| Cancellation Policy: |
In order to receive a refund, you most notify the Center for Teacher Leadership in writing three weeks prior to the start of the workshop. |

Due to the interactive nature of the training, registration is limited and are accepted on a first come, first served basis. |
