META

Established in 2001, the Metropolitan Educational Training Alliance (META), a partnership among the Chesterfield County Public Schools, Hanover County Public Schools, Henrico County Public Schools, Richmond City Public Schools, Virginia Commonwealth University, and the Greater Richmond Chamber of Commerce, exists to enhance the professional development and training of teachers, administrators and other educational personnel in the respective school divisions.  META provides a framework for its partners to identify needs and opportunities for collaborative professional development activities, to plan and to implement professional development activities, to share information and resources, and to seek additional resources necessary to carry out activities.

Current META Projects Include:

META Teacher Development and Retention Project

CTL is the proud recipient of a $5.9 million U.S. Department of Education grant to increase student achievement by developing and retaining more effective teachers.  Specifically, the project will enhance the content knowledge and pedagogical skills of prospective teachers and ensure the consistency and quality of the clinical placements of preservice teachers.

National Board for Professional Teaching Standards Support

A program designed to provide teachers with structured opportunities to clarify each aspect of the certification process and a network of support as they strive to meet the highest standards established for the profession.

Alternate Licensure for Special Education

A program intended to aid instructional assistants to earn a collegiate (K-12) professional license and become special education teachers in one of three areas of special education (emotional disturbance, learning disabilities or mental retardation).
