Eligibility Criteria for VCU Clinical Faculty

Level 1 Clinical Faculty (Cooperating Teachers):

  • Valid Virginia Collegiate Professional Certificate
  • Virginia Teaching Endorsement for subject(s)/grade(s) currently teaching
  • Successful classroom teaching experience for a minimum of three years
  • Recognition from a peer and supervisor as an accomplished teacher with positive human relations skills
  • Full-time teaching assignment within one school in Chesterfield County, Hanover County, Henrico County, and Richmond City Public Schools
  • Teaching assignment in one of the following areas:
  • Art Education
  • Early and Elementary Education
  • Special Education (Early Childhood Special Education; Special Education-General; Special Education-Adapted; Severe Disabilities)
  • Music Education
  • Health and Physical Education
  • Reading
  • Secondary Education
      - English
      - Foreign Language (French, Spanish, German)
      - Math
      - Science (Biology, Chemistry, Earth Science, Physics)
      -Social Studies and History
Level 2 Clinical Faculty (Site-Based University Supervisor):
  • Valid Virginia Collegiate Professional Certificate
  • Successful classroom teaching experience for a minimum of three years
  • Recognition from a peer and supervisor as an accomplished teacher with positive human relations skills
  • Master’s Degree
  • Successful completion of TEDU 501 Supervising Student Teachers (attaining a grade of A or B)
Level 3 Clinical Faculty (Teacher Educator):
  • Successful experience of at least two years as Level 2 Clinical Faculty member
  • Recommendation from a VCU faculty member
